Inkora user manual

A practical guide for normal use. Inkora is designed to behave more like an appliance than an electronics project: assemble it, install it in the browser and use it.

Installation and first setup

  1. Assemble only a supported board/display combination.
  2. Connect Inkora to the computer with USB-C and open the official web installer.
  3. Keep the device connected to USB until firmware installation and the first setup wizard are completely finished.
  4. Complete Wi-Fi, basic settings, Google and/or Apple connection, calendar selection and location.

USB and battery

During installation, USB power is expected to provide enough energy even when the battery is low. For that reason, do not disconnect USB during flashing or the initial setup. In normal operation Inkora is designed for battery use and deep sleep.

Battery safety: Use only a suitable undamaged rechargeable battery with the correct connector and polarity. Do not charge a swollen, damaged, very hot or frozen battery. Follow the battery manufacturer’s limits.

Buttons

Button labels differ between supported boards. Inkora maps the physical controls in firmware so the user-facing actions remain consistent. KEY3 is used to wake Inkora from deep sleep. KEY2 is the main multi-action button for normal interaction and setup functions according to the current firmware.

On EE05, the lower KEY2 used for first board detection is GPIO3. On ESPink, the primary/lower button is GPIO40.

Display refresh

E-paper may flash during a full refresh. This is normal and helps maintain image quality. The Waveshare 7.5 B V3 profile also supports Inkora’s partial-refresh path for selected setup/status areas. Good Display GDEM075F52 uses full refresh in firmware 1.1.0.

A small amount of temporary ghosting can occur on e-paper. Do not repeatedly force refreshes just to remove a faint trace; normal full refreshes clean the panel.

Temperature and placement

Inkora is intended for indoor use in a normal household environment. E-paper refresh speed and appearance are temperature-dependent and can become noticeably worse in cold conditions. Avoid direct sun, heaters, hot window sills, freezing temperatures, condensation and high humidity.

Do not press, bend or twist the e-paper glass. The printed enclosure protects the assembly but does not make the display impact-proof or weatherproof.

Synchronization and offline behaviour

Inkora periodically wakes, connects to Wi-Fi, synchronizes configured data, refreshes the screen when needed and returns to deep sleep. If a temporary network or service error occurs, cached events and weather can remain visible so the calendar is still useful.

Firmware updates

Inkora supports remote firmware updates. Do not disconnect power during an update. The firmware uses an A/B update layout so a new image can be written separately from the currently running one.

Setup mode and factory reset

Use setup mode when you need to change Wi-Fi, accounts, calendars, location or other configuration. Factory reset removes user configuration and credentials. Hardware identity and the selected firmware channel are intentionally preserved so the device does not have to redetect its board/display after every reset.

Troubleshooting

The display does not update

Check that your exact display model is supported, the flex cable is fully inserted and the installer detected the correct board before attempting display detection.

Calendar data is old

Check the Wi-Fi and synchronization status on the display. A temporary failure may leave cached data visible intentionally.
